Glasgow, West End
The Brief
The brief here was to convert existing outbuildings on the rear elevation of a listed Grade B Tenement to provide a larger kitchen living space for a family.
The Challenge
As the building was listed the extension had to be treated sensitively. The large area of glazing at the end of the extension maximizes the views into the garden and the natural daylight. The rooflight is a secondary source of light, the effect of which is doubled by using a mirror This technique was often used by the Architect John Soane to maximize daylight and to create an illusion of space. The result is a large family kitchen and living area with immediate connection to the garden for a young family to use every day. The ground floor and first floor of this building were also extensively refurbished and remodeled. Back to Projects
