the project

For the modernisation and improvement of Clincarthill Parish Church's B-Listed sanctuary and suite of halls, Thomas Robinson Architects was appointed to help the congregation accomplish these changes. The church was formed when the former Battlefield East and Mount Florida parishes united in 2010, opting to use the Battlefield East properties. These then needed conserving and upgrading to accommodate both congregations effectively.

How we worked

We were selected after impressing with sketches and proposals which respected the architecture of the existing buildings while modernising the look and function of the interior spaces. The sanctuary was refurbished with an extended chancel, and we created a small chapel and meeting room. New lighting and an audio visual system were installed and the toilets and kitchen were fully modernised. This work has resulted in a refurbished church with facilities which are welcoming, warm and fully up to date.

Success of the project

Parish minister, the Reverend Mike Gargrave, is delighted with the end result. Members of the congregation were involved at every stage of the process and the Rev Gargrave believes they have realised their dream of having a modern refurbished church with welcoming facilities that can be enjoyed by the local community.

Congregational input was important throughout. Tom Robinson said, ‘Members of both original congregations helped with different aspects of the design. This meant that many people were involved in working together to improve their church.’
