Passivhaus Design
We have two certified European Passivhaus architects at the practice: Tom Robinson and Craig Higgins. Tom has long been passionate about the Passivhaus building method and has designed houses to this extremely energy-efficient model. His work inspired Craig to gain his Passivhaus certification.
The world-renowned Passivhaus building method offers the ultimate goal in energy-efficient housing. It aims to dramatically reduce the requirement for heating and cooling of buildings, while also creating excellent indoor air quality and comfort levels. This is obtained by using specific materials and methods of building.
A house built to accredited Passivhaus standards must have a heating demand of not more than 15 kWh/m2 per annum and have total primary energy consumption of not more than 120 kWh/m2 per annum. In layman’s terms, this makes it very comfortable to live in, and keeps energy bills to a minimum.
Tom and Craig regularly apply Passivhaus fundamentals to our projects, regardless of whether they are aiming for full Passivhaus accreditation or not. This means that all our clients’ benefit from this specialist knowledge of energy efficient building.
