The core aim of this project was to develop this magnificent Scottish island country estate to create luxury hotel accommodation. The scope included substantial extensions, conservation of the historic buildings, and refurbishment of an outstanding listed country house.
This large-scale project involved collaboration with international award-winning architects Stanhope Gate Architecture, and acclaimed London based Interior Design practice Louise Jones Interiors.
For this unique hotel project in a magnificent Hebridean location, Thomas Robinson Architects acted as Executive Architects. Our architectural services included detailed drawings, specifications, obtaining consents, and setting the direction on build quality, construction, and material fitness. We also oversaw the project on the ground.
We have become experts at managing the complex relationships involved in these cross-party partnerships.
In The Quads – which offer the core hotel accommodation on the site – the layout means each suite is essentially a perfect adjoined cottage, each one offering a completely different interior concept from the others. The layout comes out of the original structure of two adjacent quadrangles or courtyards, which is exceptionally pleasing.
We structured the circulation via passageways and stone paths but the effect for guests is a high feeling of privacy and escape, while also having the connection of social areas like the restaurant, bar, and ceilidh barn only a few paces away.
Original and new stone exteriors feel rugged and timeless and all part of the experience in this dramatic and wild island landscape. As a counterpoint to the wildness, the lush green flowing fairways of the golf course that has been sculpted here, provide an astonishing sense of majesty in this incredibly special place.
The outcome is utterly exceptional accommodation that fits entirely in its matchless setting. The Quads and estate house at Ardfin on the Isle of Jura offer luxury accommodation with a uniquely charming character.
This project greatly enhanced our expertise in the field of Executive Architecture and in putting together strong teams for clients based outside of Scotland. Our skill also aided the project by adding local knowledge and attention to detail to achieve successful project delivery of an exclusive hospitality venue.
