Turning what was a slightly awkward U-shaped farm-building conversion into a sleek modern house was the core of our brief for this project.
Our plan and the client’s goal was to bring in significant light, and to create open flowing spaces throughout this stone-built property. We needed to reconnect parts of the house that felt disconnected, and bring it up to 21st-century living standards of thermal efficiency. We were keenly aware of setting up the interior to allow for the client’s appealing modern interior aesthetic to shine.
Preparing a new internal layout with structural alterations included combining two adjoining bedrooms on the first-floor to create a generous master bedroom. This includes a large new dormer window looking over the Campsie Hills to the west of the house.
We helped modernise kitchen and dining areas by combining them into an expansive open-plan layout. Creating a kitchen island from a portion of the existing stone wall is a lovely feature that helps preserve some of the original character.
We also resolved the separation of an annex bedroom previously only accessible from the utility entrance by knocking through from the main stairwell and reconnecting it to the heart of the home. The utility room has been redesigned, and now boasts maximised storage solutions with sitting space for removing footwear after muddy walks in the surrounding countryside.
During site stages we were on hand to assist with technical design queries and layout tweaks. The client worked closely with the builder to direct the beautiful interior finishes and built-in cabinetry.
This is a hugely upgraded complete interior refurbishment. Layout improvements have resolved issues of flow and space. The house now feels much more cohesive, and is considerably brighter with larger and better placed windows.
We are particularly proud of the transformation of the kitchen and dining space into a Scandi-Scottish design success story.
